What’s the Lair Keys in Destiny 2?
Lair Keys are a seasonal currency in Destiny 2’s Season of the Wish, used to unlock the potential of Lair Chests. These chests are found at the end of the seasonal activities, Riven’s Lair and The Coil, after completing a run. While you can open a Lair Chest without a Lair Key, using a key significantly enhances the rewards you receive.
You can only hold a limited number of Lair Keys in your inventory at any time, so it’s advisable to utilize them regularly.
How to Obtain Lair Keys in Destiny 2
For players who have engaged with Destiny 2 over the past year since the launch of Lightfall, the process of acquiring Lair Keys will be familiar. Similar to Defiant Keys, Deep Dive Keys, Salvage Keys, and Witch Keys, Lair Keys are earned through various activities, including:
- Dreaming City Activities: These activities offer a higher chance of obtaining Lair Keys.
- Ritual Playlists: Activities like Gambit, Vanguard Ops, and Crucible also have a chance to drop Lair Keys.
- Seasonal Story Progression: Completing the first week of the seasonal story grants a Lair Key.
- Riven Reputation: Reaching ranks seven and 13 in Riven’s reputation awards two Lair Keys.
- Season Pass Ranks: Reaching Ranks 12, 24, 52, and 92 in the Season Pass also provides Lair Keys.
Players can only hold up to five Lair Keys at a time.
How to Use Lair Keys in Destiny 2
Using Lair Keys is straightforward: simply open any Lair chest at the end of a Season of the Wish activity, specifically Riven’s Lair and The Coil.
The Coil, being a repeatable roguelike activity, allows you to use as many Lair Keys as you have and continue playing. However, the five-key limit means you’ll need to take breaks to replenish your supply.
When you defeat the final boss in Riven’s Lair, the reward chest will spawn, containing Wish Engrams and seasonal gear. If you have a Lair Key in your inventory, it will automatically be consumed, boosting the rewards and often yielding an additional weapon or armor piece. Each successful clear also increases your Riven Reputation, allowing you to claim bonus rewards from Riven within the H.E.L.M.
