Dragon's Dogma 2: Dullahan Boss Guide

Dragon’s Dogma 2 Dullahan: How to Beat the Headless Horseman

Dullahan Location

The Dullahan, also known as the Headless Horseman, isn’t a random encounter. He’s part of the “Till Death Do Us Part” quest. To begin, interact with Oswald, a notable figure near the Vernworth fountain. Following Oswald’s instructions will lead you to Margit, who will task you with saving her husband, Sir Gregor. The quest unfolds in the Misty Marshes, a region northwest of Vernworth City and west of Harve Village. Within these fog-shrouded marshes, you’ll find Illdoer’s Resting Place, an area teeming with undead creatures. The Dullahan awaits in a specific location: an abandoned village with a riftstone and campsite, situated on a small island in the middle of a lake east of the village.

Preparing for the Fight

Tackling the Dullahan demands careful preparation. His primary weakness is holy magic. Ensure your arsenal includes weapons and abilities that effectively utilize holy magic. He has a singular weak point: the head he clutches in his grasp. The fight is challenging, even with allies. Planning to exploit his vulnerabilities is crucial for a swift victory. Stock up on healing items and ensure that your pawns and companions are well-equipped.

Dullahan Mechanics

  • Initial Staggering Roar: Upon engaging, the Dullahan will momentarily phase and unleash a deafening roar, stunning you momentarily. During this vulnerable period, he unleashes a flurry of powerful melee attacks. Masterfully dodge and reposition yourself to evade this initial onslaught.
  • Pink Aura Phase: The Dullahan will transform into a glowing pink aura, relentlessly pursuing you while draining your health. Maintaining a safe distance and utilizing evasive maneuvers are critical during this phase to avoid substantial health loss. Consider using energy-recovery items to replenish your stamina during these periods.
  • Melee Attacks: The Dullahan’s primary assault involves swift slashing blows with his scythes. A strategic approach emphasizing ranged combat will help you maintain distance and effectively counteract these attacks. The presence of pawns and NPCs can help you manage your distance and remain safe from melee attacks.
  • Gregor’s Safety: Dullahan poses a significant threat to Sir Gregor. Death is permanent, so carefully manage Gregor’s position. Remain near the center of the island during the battle to minimize the chance of Gregor being knocked into the lake. Strategically positioning Gregor near the center mitigates the risk of him being pushed into the water.

How to Defeat Dullahan

Successfully defeating the Dullahan necessitates either forcing a retreat or directly eliminating him. Inflicting sufficient damage will eventually trigger a series of shrieks, signaling the final stages of the battle. The Dullahan will teleport away if you can’t defeat him quickly during this phase. Defeating the Headless Horseman grants the “Before Dawn Breaks” achievement, enhancing your accomplishment.

Best Vocations to Fight Dullahan

For optimal performance against the Dullahan, professions capable of ranged attacks offer significant advantages. Classes like Archers, Sorcerers, Mages, and Magic Archers excel in this encounter. Sorcerers and mages, specifically, profit from utilizing holy magic, which exploits a significant weakness of the Dullahan. These roles allow for effective damage output while maintaining a safe distance from the Dullahan’s aggressive melee attacks.
