In Dune: Awakening, you can build different types of flying machines. If you like it armed, you need a combat thopter. iGV explains how to get it.
What is the combat thopter for? The combat thopter, also known as the “Assaultthopter”, is a fast and combat-ready flying device in Dune: Awakening. Unlike the other aircraft, the combat thopter can be equipped with missiles to fight against targets in the air and on the ground. Building a combat thopter is an important step for many characters, because it ensures that players can really assert themselves in the endgame area “Deep Desert”.
What do I need to research? In order to build the combat thopter at all, you first have to research the assembly kit. It differs from the common ornithopter and can be found in the research menu at tier level 5, duralumin. You need 45 Intel research points to research.

Water
To collect enough water, you should always have enough blood bags with you. Once you’re involved in a fight, you can use it to turn your opponents into valuable water supplies. We explain exactly how this works here: Dune: Awakening Blood Purifier – How to get water easily
This can be done even more efficiently with a Fremen death distiller. In this device you can place the bodies of your defeated enemies to extract their blood by bleeding them out. Although the process takes about an hour per corpse, it provides significantly more water and even continues to run automatically while you take care of collecting other resources.
Aluminium
While your enemies are being processed into water, you should take care of obtaining aluminum in parallel. The best way to do this is to get into your buggy, which you have previously equipped with a suitable cutteray and sufficient storage space, and make your way to the eastern shield wall.
Follow the roads and paths there – along the edges you will regularly discover aluminum deposits. These can be easily removed by switching to the shooter’s seat (holding down the “F” key) and using the cutter of your buggy. If you are missing an appropriately equipped buggy, it is advisable to at least take your sandbike with you. Ideally, you should expand the storage space of the bike so that you have to return to the base less often.
Jasmium ore and duralumin bears
Jasmium ore is only found in the Hagga Basin in the Sheoul area. There you will find the crystals in the irradiated area, which is why an Orniphtoper makes sense for transporting and safely recovering the ore. You should also put on a radiation protection suit to stay against the radiation for longer.
In the area, you can find the ore in the lakes and ponds. In order to mine it, you need at least an industrial cutter level 4.
In your base, you can then use jasmium ore and aluminum ingots to craft the duralumin ingots you need to build the combat thopter.

Cobalt paste
Cobalt paste is one of the essential materials in Dune: Awakening and is made from erythritol crystals. These can only be found deep in the Hagar Rift, more precisely in the Chome Mineral Extraction Facilities. The crystals have a striking reddish-pink colour and can be seen on the rock faces.
Here, too, it is worthwhile to arrive with a buggy or sand bike with extended storage space to avoid unnecessary journeys. Once you’ve collected enough crystals, it’s best to make the cobalt paste directly – the crafting process takes some time.
Advanced servoks and particle capacitors
You can find these two resources in the test stations of Dune: Awakening. Depending on how many dungeons you’ve already completed, there might already be a few in your inventory.
It is generally recommended to visit the test stations regularly – in addition to the loot, quests and tasks can also be completed there.
If you want to farm a specific station: The loot will reappear about 45 minutes after the last visit. There are also numerous enemies there that you can use to extract water.
Diamond dust and carbide scrap
These materials are among the rarer resources in the game and require more effort than simple farm tours. To get them, you should visit the Mysa Tarill area.
Between cliffs and ruined buildings, you will always find boxes that, with a little luck, contain diamond dust or carbide scrap. If the find fails to materialize, it is possible to purchase these resources from the Stations of the Cross Trading Post against Solaris.
Hydraulic pistons
To get hydraulic pistons, you have to go to the NPC bases in the Sheoul area. There you can find them in boxes within the bases and in small numbers. Alternatively, you can also buy them from the retailer.
Military Energy Regulator
You need this rare component for the combat thopter. You can find him in the Edge of Acheron outpost in the west of the map (Sheol region). Attention: The area is heavily irradiated – don’t forget protective armor! Strong NPC opponents await you on site and PvP is active. Secure the area, go to the main building and loot the chest on the table.
With a bit of luck, you can also loot the Regulator from crashing ships or buy it from the merchant in the Stations of the Cross Trading Post (Mysa Tarill).
Complex machine & armor plate
You probably already have these components in your storage, as they often appear as loot from defeated enemies or in enemy camps.
A helpful note: In areas with large machines, the chance of encountering these components is significantly higher. Save yourself fights against smaller groups, such as those who only linger around a campfire – it’s usually not worth the effort here. These resources can be farmed particularly efficiently in Sentinel City, together with the next important component.
Industrial Pumps
The last resource required is the industrial pumps. Their best location is also Sentinel City, in the area of the Eastern Shield Wall. You can regularly find these pumps in the chests there – but you should be prepared for strong enemies in large numbers.
Our tip: Use distraction abilities to avoid enemies and focus on looting the crates quickly instead of getting involved in long battles.
If you still come away empty-handed in Sentinel City, you can also switch to the merchant in the Stations of the Cross Trading Post, who sells the industrial pumps for Solaris, as with diamond dust and carbide scrap.
Once you’ve gathered all the materials, you can easily craft the components for the battle thopter at a vehicle factory gate and assemble them with the vehicle tool.
