Highlights

Funcom has rolled out a substantial update for Dune: Awakening, addressing various aspects of the game and incorporating player feedback. Here’s a quick look at some key changes:

  • Sandworms linger near recently harvested spicefields.
  • Reduced frequency of Harkonnen attacks on Atreides bases (and vice versa) in Hagga Basin.
  • The “Play Now” button now excludes private servers.
  • Streamer mode hides map creator and sector names in the Deep Desert.
  • Items can be listed/claimed from vehicle inventory in the exchange.
  • Improved vehicle interaction.
  • Addressed combat damage vulnerabilities.
  • Fixed exploits for item repair, resource duplication, and unauthorized Pentashield vehicle passage.

FEATURES AND CHANGES

Technical and stability:

Several improvements have been made to enhance the game’s technical performance and stability. The “Play Now” button on the main menu is now configured to exclude private servers, providing a more consistent experience for players. Players who succumb to the Coriolis Storm while offline will now be relocated to Hagga Basin. Trading Post checkpoints can now serve as respawn locations across different maps. The minimum Intel GPU driver has been bumped to version 32.0.101.6793. GeForceNOW users will no longer encounter false warnings related to minimum hardware specifications.

Resources, Building, and Crafting:

Changes have been implemented to improve resource management, building mechanics, and crafting options. Atreides Decorations were moved from Asmara Efendi to Ormunda Laaks. Loot containers dropped after picking up NPC corpses will be hidden for the player who looted the corpse, if empty. Three new weapon schematics have been added to Asmara Efendi. The Vehicle Backup Tool and Solido Replicator can now be crafted in the Survival Fabricator. Armor will now display the correct swatches applied in-game. Range information was added to the Welding Torch info card, and the Hawkeye Scanner Module MK5 Unique schematic was removed from Landsraad rewards.

Combat:

The combat system has received several tweaks and improvements. Visual updates have been made to buff and debuff icons for improved clarity. The Sentinel ability’s action text has been changed from “Detonate” to “Deploy”. Range information has been added to Weirding Step and duration information to Suspensor Pad’s info cards. New visual effects indicate sword parrying staggering multiple targets. Dagger slow blade animations have been updated. Correct VFX now play on the receiving side if shielded or damage immune. Underslung weapons are now disabled while in a vehicle’s passenger seat. A number of vulnerabilities that allowed for increased combat damage have been addressed.

Abilities:

Adjustments have been made to character abilities to refine gameplay and balance. Suspensor Dash now costs 20% of maximum power. The poise damage resistance of Thrive on Danger has been reduced to 34%. Jumping is now restricted while under the effect of Crippling Strike. The description of Center of Mass and Marksman Techniques has been updated. Performing melee attacks within Gravity Fields will now cause the player to play exhausted attack animations. The ‘Ranged Damage’ passive ability now increases damage with all ranged weapons, not just darts. The description of poison tooth activation has been clarified.

Vehicles:

Various vehicle-related changes enhance the driving experience. The buggy turret camera has been adjusted for improved visibility. Minor tweaks have been made to the camera when boosting in a vehicle. Interaction with vehicles has been improved, with easier entry from different angles. Ground vehicles now have a failsafe against being stuck when flipped. Ground vehicles now behave better when flipped or kicked by Sandworms. Scout Ornithopter Thruster modules have increased speed in Vulture Mode.

Balancing:

Updates were made to overall balancing for a better gameplay experience. Anti-gravity fields have been adjusted. Rusher NPCs now animation cancel out of their melee attack finishers when their target moves out of range.

Worldbuilding and Exploration:

The game world has been enriched with new details and improvements. Sandworms now linger near recently harvested spicefields, adding a new layer of risk. The frequency of Harkonnen attacks on certain Atreides bases in Hagga Basin has been reduced. Collision has been improved in the room of the Proteus where you encounter your first shielded enemy. Miscellaneous journey step improvements have been made. Incorrect holograms have been replaced, and salvageable Buggies replaced with broken Buggies in specific locations. Respawn Beacons are now removed upon account or player deletion.

Story, Journey and New Player Experience:

The narrative aspects of the game have been refined. Improved journey auto tracking addresses situations where the journey system failed to track the next journey card. “Complete Contract “The War Profiteer”” will now complete even if the player canceled it but continued in the faction story.

User Interface:

UI enhancements include added keybindings for “Take” (quick loot), “Exit climbing”, and “Exit vehicle.” The Pinned Recipes display has updated colors. Items can be unfavorited in the inventory loadout. Updated icons were added for Maula vest variants, online status, and the Slaver Stillsuit. The compass now shows a consistent colored line representing which zone the Player is in. Navigation icons are animated in the Crafting, Journey, and Customization menus. Streamer mode hides map creator and sector names. A step was added to delete character progress. Items can now be listed and claimed from vehicles. The dialogue message when visiting a friend on another server was improved.

Graphics, Animations, and VFX:

Visual enhancements have been made to improve the overall aesthetic appeal. Additional animations have been added and updated in cinematics, NPC lip-sync, and cloth simulation. Lighting optimization improvements were implemented for Wreck of the Hephaestus. Performance has been optimized on VFX assets for the Wreck of Hephaestus cinematic. New surface hits were added for LMGs and lighting transitions softened in the Deep Desert.

Audio:

Audio improvements have been implemented to enhance the auditory experience. The sound effects indicating an active Blood Purifier have been improved. Audio levels on Sandstorms have been re-balanced. Enhancements were made to melee audio, along with minor audio mix tweaks. New sounds were added for spice bloom geysers. Headphone mix preset and weapon tails in enclosed spaces have been increased. The Ornithopter engine volume has been lowered, and voiceover for House Vernius has been added.

FIXES

Technical and stability:

Several technical issues have been resolved to enhance stability and performance. Text chat notification for muted players has been localized. An issue causing server unresponsiveness was addressed. Multiple Deep Desert issues causing server crashes were fixed. Cases where players moving across servers were soft locked were addressed. When a player has no sub-fiefs and builds one, it is set as a respawn location. The message about setting a vehicle as default spawn is removed in the Deep Desert. The respawn menu now appears after death while disconnected. BattlEye has been updated. Exploits for repairing all items, resource duplication, and vehicle passage through Pentashields have been fixed.

Resources, Building, and Crafting:

Numerous bugs related to resources, building, and crafting have been resolved. Loot bags dropped on placeables should no longer fall inside them. The issue preventing highlighting of placeables with the construction tool was resolved. The lingering sub-fief console projection bug has been fixed. Construction tool hints are now hidden when all slots are full. Building menu icons now show correct numbers. Placing walls intersecting with pentashield projections is now prevented. The incorrect prompt when demolishing another player’s sub-fief console has been corrected. It should now be possible to highlight and demolish unpowered pentashields. Harkonnen prudence doors now play sound effects. Large pentashield UI is displayed correctly. Building through ceilings and walls is no longer possible. Canceling crafting requests now refunds the water cost. Fixed being able to build placeables through ceilings and walls.

Combat:

Various combat-related issues have been addressed. The “afterimage” effect no longer sees through environment effects. The sideways root motion has been fixed. Rusher NPCs no longer travel too far from their spawn. Gas clouds now fade out. The lightning effect on Energy Capsules is now centered. Blade Damage passives now give the correct increase for Long Blade weapons. “The Sentinel” will no longer attack an allied “Solido Decoy.” Player rubberbanding when moving through other players in social hubs has been addressed. Civilian NPCs can no longer be moved using Knee Charge. Weapon reloading now functions correctly. Melee attacks can no longer critically hit targets.

Abilities:

Bugs related to specific abilities have been resolved. The issue where the player could lose the ability to swap weapons after using Poison Capsule has been fixed. A desync issue related to “Weirding Step” has been corrected. The cooldown for failed equipable abilities is now a universal ~2.5 seconds. Players will no longer lose 1 skill point when respeccing their skill tree.

Vehicles:

A host of vehicle-related issues have been fixed. Bounding box problems have been solved for better hit feedback. Interior mesh clipping in the Harkonnen light ornithopter has been fixed. Players can no longer get trapped inside another player’s ornithopter. Collision issues related to the Sandworm were addressed. Boost functionality has been repaired. LOD issues on certain vehicles have been fixed. A character exiting a vehicle will no longer appear seated on the ground for other players. Players can no longer enter vehicles mid travel and vehicles can no longer pass through Pentashields.

Worldbuilding and Exploration:

Numerous worldbuilding and exploration issues have been resolved. The player will no longer fully lose radiation on log out. Rare crashes involving exploding barrels have been addressed. The player can no longer move on the Overland Map while in a loading screen. Sudden Ornithopter altitude changes near the Overland Map were fixed. Vehicle cameras are now less likely to clip through terrain. Damage will be reduced to 25% when party members shoot each other in Ornithopters. Fixed a floating island in Deep Desert.

Story, Journey and New Player Experience:

Story and journey-related bugs have been ironed out. Debug text should no longer appear in subtitles. Correct aspect ratios have been added to cinematic scenes. Ariste now looks at the player in the Star Door dialogue. A series of issues that prevented story progression and retroactive journey completion have been addressed. Players can no longer complete a Journey step without triggering a key cinematic.

User Interface:

Various UI-related fixes have been implemented. UI panels in the Journey menu no longer overlap the Social Button. Player names now fit correctly in the Social Menu. When using a virtual keyboard with a controller, text is not submitted when closing the keyboard. Inventory tabs no longer desync and overlap. Discovery toasts only appear once and controller prompts function correctly. Issues with the trade, character creation, skill tree and notification systems have been resolved. In streamer mode, the player name is no longer visible if the player caused their own death.

Graphics, Animations, and VFX:

Several graphical issues have been resolved. The weapon flicker when aiming with and holstering a scoped rifle has been fixed. Character LOD issues in cinematics are resolved. Minor clipping issues on Choam Light Armor were addressed. Fixed issues with NPC’s disappearing when rotating the camera in Arrakeen. Fixed Medium Chemical Refinery missing VFX when crafting and color of vehicle dust trails for better Red Desert fit. Improved muzzle flashes for various viewpoints.

Audio:

Audio bugs have been squashed to improve the auditory experience. Unintended SFX on the black screen in the New Player Experience cinematic has been removed. The death sound no longer disappears when falling into the large fan from Carthag.
