Diablo 4 Season 5 Store Bundles 1 Jpg 1024x576

What is this new mode? With Season 5, a new endgame activity moved into Diablo 4: the “Infernal Hordes”, or in German: Hell Hordes. The activity is an integral part of the Season of Hell Hordes and is available at all Torment levels.

The activity is based on monster waves, and you can start it alone or with your friends on the Eternal and Seasonal realms. To start the activity, you must first complete a quest and have a compass. Below you can find out how the whole thing works. Buy Diablo 4 Gold for a smoother experience and to dominate the activity with ease!

Hell Hordes: How to Start the Endgame Activity

How do I start the Hell Hordes? To start the Hell Hordes, you have to do several things:

  • Start the quest line “Of Lambs and Wolves” at a Torment level and continue to progress.
  • Start the quest line “The Eyes of the Enemy” and continue to progress.
  • Complete the quest.
  • You unlock the Hell Hordes. Before that, you won’t get any compasses dropped.

The questline is available on Eternal and Seasonal realms. You only need to complete it once on your account – unless you switch to Hardcore.

To open the Hellhorde activity, you need a Hell Compass. These compasses, which act as a key to the activity, have a different number of waves. The more waves you have, the more Aether you can collect.

This is how you get Infernal Compasses:

  • from the hellish flood
  • from Whisper Chests from the Tree (75% chance)
  • from Nightmare Dungeons
  • from the pit

Hell hordes: This is how the activity works

How do the hell hordes work? In the Hell Hordes, you fight against waves of monsters that last 60 seconds. You collect Burning Aether, regardless of whether you play alone or in a group. Your animal companion collects the “currency” for you.

If your character dies, you won’t lose any Aether, but respawns are limited. Between the waves, you choose a “Hellish Gift” – also called “Curse and Blessing”. This allows you to optionally increase the strength of the monsters, certain monster types and the rewards.

Which gifts are worthwhile? The most worthwhile gifts are those in which you select Hellblooders, as they can then spawn in any wave. Ideally, you can increase the spawn rates with the gifts between the waves and farm a lot of Aether. Alternatively, gifts that increase the number of elite enemies and make events spawn faster are also worthwhile.

If you manage to survive the hordes of hell, various chests with rewards await you to choose from:

with 200 Aether you unlock a large chest that is guaranteed to contain an item with a Greater Affix and often Scrolls of Restorationlete it once on your account – unless you switch to Hardcore.

Mats (Gem Fragments, Obducite) – “Costs” your entire Aether

Gold – “costs” your entire ether

Hell Hordes: Boss fight against the “Cruel Council”

Finally, you fight against the “Cruel Council.” There are a total of 5 members and every time you face the council in the Hell Hordes, 3 different members are randomly selected. If you defeat the Council, Burning Aether awaits you here as well, which you collect for the rewards. The amount depends on the world level.

Who are the bosses? The “Cruel Council” consists of council members from Diablo 2 who have been revived by Mephisto. There it was a special monster type with its own bonuses. They used to be warriors and members of the “High Council of Zakarum” who were supposed to guard Mephisto, but were corrupted by him and turned into demons.

In Diablo 2, there were still 7 of these members (via fandom).

  • Ismail Vilehand (Cursed)
  • Geleb Flamefinger (Fire Enchanted)
  • Toorc Icefist (Cold Enchanted)
  • Wyand Voidbringer (Teleportation)
  • Maffer Dragonhand (Extra Strong)
  • Bremm Sparkfist (Lightning Enchanted)
  • Bartuc the Bloody

Hell Hordes: Loot Drops

What loot drops in the Hell Hordes? The Hell Hordes are a good place to go for Scrolls of Restoration, herbs, but also for loot – such as ancestral items. There you also have a chance to get various uniques:

  • All classes: Crown of Lucion, Enduring Faith, Shard of Verathiel, Rakanoth’s Guard, Locran’s Talisman
  • Barbarians: The Third Blade
  • Wizard: Vox Omnium
  • Druids: The Basilisk
  • Hunter: The Umbracrux
  • Necromancer: The Mortacrux
