What’s the Blood of Lathander?
The Blood of Lathander is a powerful legendary mace in Baldur’s Gate 3. It’s a coveted weapon, especially for Clerics, as it grants a unique ability: a powerful spell that can revive you once per long rest and heal other nearby party members. Obtaining this weapon is an exciting quest in the game.
How to Get the Blood of Lathander
The Blood of Lathander is located within the Githyanki Creche, Y’llek, near the Mountain Pass. To get the mace, you’ll need to gain access to the Creche. This can be achieved by either befriending the Githyanki or approaching them with less hostility. Once inside, make your way to the Inquisitor’s Chamber. A cutscene will trigger, leading to a fight. However, ignore the Inquisitor and head to the left, jumping into the west room with two statues.
Each statue has a plaque. The left statue’s plaque reads, “Lathander bids the setting sun a fond farewell,” while the right statue’s reads, “Lathander blesses the bountiful, rising sun.” To unlock the secret area containing the mace, you need to align the statues with the sun’s movements. Turn the left statue to face west and the right statue to face east. However, one of the statues might be stuck.
To unstuck the left statue, hit it with at least 10 damage. Then, rotate both statues to face the correct directions. Once done, a doorway to the secret area will unlock.
Getting Through the Barriers
The secret area has three barriers, each with an active crystal. To proceed, you must destroy these crystals while avoiding or disarming any traps. Upon entering the secret area, destroy the first crystal to open the initial barrier. Next, navigate around the Dawnbreaker trap by taking a left and skirting along the edge of the cliff behind the second barrier. Finally, disarm the next Dawnbreaker trap and look towards the northern edge of the cliff. You’ll find the crystal below. Shoot it with a ranged weapon to open the final barrier.
Time to Make A Choice
You’ll find yourself in the chamber where the Blood of Lathander resides. However, taking the mace without caution will trigger the monastery’s self-destruction. The lance weapon on the roof will detonate, destroying everything, including your party. There are two options to prevent this:
- Use the Dawnmaster’s Crest: If you’ve completed the Stained Glass puzzle in the Rosymorn Monastery above, you can insert the Dawnmaster’s Crest into the underside of the mace. This will disarm the weapon. While the puzzle is challenging, the rewards are less valuable compared to the Blood of Lathander.
- Destroy the Lathander Solar Machines: These devices are located in each corner of the room. They can only be damaged with ranged attacks, and you’ll have only three party members available during the fight as one is trapped with the mace. Destroy the machines within four turns to prevent the detonation.
By successfully navigating through the barriers and making the right choice, you’ll claim the legendary Blood of Lathander, a powerful weapon that will enhance your party’s capabilities.
