What Are Spells in Hogwarts Legacy?
Spells are the core of magic in Hogwarts Legacy. They are the tools you’ll use to overcome challenges, from combat to exploration. You’ll have a variety of spells at your disposal, including:
- Combat Spells: Like Expelliarmus and Incendio, these spells help you defeat enemies.
- Utility Spells: Such as the Disillusionment Charm and Revelio, these spells enhance your traversal and exploration.
- Unforgivable Curses: These powerful, dark spells are considered taboo and have devastating consequences.
Though you start with a limited selection, you’ll gradually unlock a vast array of spells as you progress through the game.
How to Learn New Spells in Hogwarts Legacy
You’ll primarily acquire new spells in Hogwarts Legacy through two main avenues:
Campaign Progression and Classes
Some spells are unlocked naturally as you progress through the main storyline. For example, you’ll learn Protego and Stupefy during an early encounter with armored knights. You’ll also learn spells like Accio and Levioso by attending classes like Charms and Defense Against the Dark Arts.
Assignments
Professors assign side quests called “Assignments” to help you develop your magical skills. Completing these assignments rewards you with new spells. You can track these assignments under the Quests menu of the Field Guide.
For example, Professor Ronen’s Assignment, which requires you to find two flying pages, unlocks the Reparo spell.
Remember, some spells will need to be equipped in your spell slots, while “essential spells” like Basic Cast and Ancient Magic Throw are always available.
How to Learn the Unforgivable Curses in Hogwarts Legacy
Unlike standard spells taught in classes, the Unforgivable Curses are not part of the Hogwarts curriculum. To learn these dark spells, you must follow Sebastian Sallow’s storyline. He is the only character who will teach you these curses.
While there’s no morality system to punish you for using these curses, characters will react negatively to your actions. Keep in mind that using any of the Unforgivable Curses, even once, would result in a life sentence at Azkaban in the Harry Potter universe. However, Hogwarts Legacy allows you to use them without consequences. You have the choice to learn and use them or simply avoid them altogether.
