Mount collectors in the retail version of World of Warcraft will soon have to play Classic. Because that’s the only way to get a new mount.
One of the best side activities in World of Warcraft is growing your own collection. More and more mounts that you can brag about or admire in your own garrison. For a new, exclusive mount, however, you will soon have to play Mists of Pandaria Classic – because only then will you get the mount in The War Within.

What has been announced? Blizzard has announced the launch of “Mists of Pandaria Classic”, namely for July 21, 2025. Before that, however, there will be the opportunity to play a pandaren and experience the starting area. This is also an incentive for retail fans, because a new mount beckons here when the pandaren starting area has been completed.
What kind of mount is it? It’s Shaohao’s Sage Serpent. This is a green (jade-colored) variant of the coveted mount “Astral Cloud Serpent”, which is available as a very rare drop from boss Elegon from the raid “Mogu’shan Vaults”. If you haven’t had any luck so far or find the green version much prettier, you should plan an evening in July to earn the mount.
When is that possible? The promotion runs from 01/07 to 30/07 – so almost all of July. So you have enough time to take an evening or two off from modern WoW and then earn a new mount for exactly that.
How long does it take? The starting area of the pandaren is not particularly long. For the vast majority of players, the area should be played through in the course of 1 to 2 hours, so that you can then start the journey to the rest of the world. As soon as you have left the starting island (and reported to the boss of your faction), the task is considered complete and the mount is unlocked.
