Which numbers are getting out of control?
Some builds are so powerful that their damage numbers flood the screen and are barely readable. Already in Season 2, the stats exploded, and at the release of the Ghostborn, players wondered what these absurd sums were even called.
Since Season 5, the combat text can be completely hidden, but for those who want to keep an eye on their damage, this is not a real option. However, they are primarily bothered by the values, which mutate into “nonsense numbers” for them.
This is what players criticize about the numbers:
In a post on Reddit, the Diablo 4 community is currently discussing the most important numbers in the game again. The user Level_Counter3062 writes that it simply doesn’t feel good “to have a DPS of 100,000,000,000,000 damage.” He thinks claims inflation is completely crazy.
The creator of the post and other users summarize this frustration about the balancing and the extreme escalation of values in the thread as follows:
- Bosses have life points in the quadrillion range, while player characters are in the five- to six-figure range, and yet you fight on an equal footing.
- In the endgame, at some point you literally have to pay trillions in damage to make any progress at all.
- The huge sums make it impossible to calculate the actual damage margin. The abbreviation in the game, which unceremoniously combines 10,000,000,000,000 into “10T”, does not help either.
- The values lose all meaning and simply become unusable in high ranges.
- If you don’t play an S or A-tier build, you will be completely excluded from some content.
- For many, the best defense is only an “absolutely sick offensive” anyway.
Despite the criticism, many players who buy Diablo 4 Items emphasize that they still enjoy playing the game. However, they would like to see another “number squish” that drastically reduces the numerical values in the game. Better balancing would reward tactics and variety, so you can do pretty much any content even with “off-tier builds”.
