PlayStation 2025: iGV Predictions

The Games We Know Are Coming

PlayStation 2025 promises a mix of established franchises and fresh beginnings. Key releases include Sucker Punch’s Ghost of Yotei, a sequel to the acclaimed Ghost of Tsushima. This new chapter will explore a different region of Japan, and introduce a new protagonist. Another notable entry is Fairgames, a multiplayer heist shooter from Haven Studios, offering a potential alternative to the previously unsuccessful live-service model. These titles represent some of the most anticipated games from Sony’s first-party studios.

Beyond PlayStation Studios, Bungie’s debut title following their acquisition by Sony, Marathon, is slated for release. As a live-service shooter, it will be crucial for PlayStation to learn from the missteps of Concord and demonstrate a stable and enjoyable experience. Naughty Dog’s Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, though not due in 2025, remains a significant development to watch. Similarly, other highly anticipated titles like Death Stranding 2: On the Beach and Physint from Hideo Kojima are expected in the coming years, but no firm release date is yet known. Multiple third-party titles are also expected to debut, including Phantom Blade Zero, Where Winds Meet, Ballad of Antara, Sword of the Sea, The Midnight Walk, and Baby Steps.

Hopes and Dreams

Beyond the known releases, speculation surrounds other potential titles. Insomniac Games, despite the recent data breach, is expected to continue development of Marvel projects, like Wolverine and a potential Venom game. Santa Monica Studio, following their acclaimed God of War series, has yet to unveil their next major project, and the potential for new releases from the studio remains a subject of high anticipation. Guerrilla Games, known for the Horizon series, may venture into new online multiplayer territories. Bend Studio, after the release of Days Gone, is expected to announce a new open-world adventure. The possibility of a Bloodborne remaster or sequel, potentially following Sony’s acquisition of FromSoftware’s parent company, Kadokawa, is also a highly desired prospect for fans.

The future of PlayStation’s first-party studios remains largely a mystery. Rumors and speculation abound, but concrete information remains scarce. We may see an emphasis on more established franchises or potential ventures into uncharted territories. A lack of announcements could indicate internal challenges or focus on developing future titles.

Hardware and Tech

PlayStation’s hardware roadmap appears less active in 2025. The release of the PS5 Pro, while more powerful, has had a mixed reception, and its impact on future gaming releases is yet to be fully seen. Sony’s focus might be on refining existing hardware and supporting current platforms, rather than launching new systems. The PS5 Pro may prove to be a valuable purchase for gamers looking to fully experience enhanced visuals from upcoming titles.

There are persistent rumors about a possible handheld successor to the PSP and PS Vita. This would mark a return to a smaller, portable gaming format after several years of focusing on home consoles. Reports suggest Sony is exploring this market, but no definitive confirmation has been made. The existing hardware releases are likely to be focused on performance enhancement and fine tuning to improve compatibility and gameplay with upcoming games.
