World of Warcraft wants you to get rid of your gold. An NPC sells new weapon skins - but they are really expensive.
A new, somewhat secret dealer has opened shop in World of Warcraft. However, many players probably cannot afford the particularly exclusive offers. Because in order to get the fancy gold-plated weapons or even the golden mount, you have to pay quite a lot of money. You'll have to spend over 2,000,000 gold if you want everything the new dealer offers.
How to buy from the dealer?
Find Miss Xiulan
You can find Miss Xiulan (“Ms Xiulan”) at the black market auction house on the lowest level of the current capital, Valdrakken. Access is at coordinates 14 / 54, under the island where the baby dragons play.
You have to speak to Xiulan and then choose the dialogue option that says you are interested in “particularly expensive” goods. You can then view the pandaren range.
Check what does Miss Xiulan sell
The Pandaren lady has some particularly exclusive skins on offer - for weapons as well as shields and a thick mount.
She sells:
Surname | Type of item | Gold cost |
Golden resonance crystal | mount | 1,200,000 |
Witch Hunter's Gilded Carbine | weapon (firearm) | 100,000 |
Gold plated crown splitter | Weapon (two-handed axe) | 90,000 |
Gilded scarab bulwark | Shield hand (shield) | 100,000 |
Royal Witch Doctor Trophies | Back | 80,000 |
Royal Witch Doctor's Guard | Shield hand (shield) | 80,000 |
Headgear of the majestic griffin rider | Head | 75,000 |
Marauder King Corpse Carver | weapon (polearm) | 100,000 |
Helm of the Hot-tempered Crusader | Head | 75,000 |
Arsenal: Whispering Temple Blades | weapons | 200,000 |
If you want to buy all of her items, you'll have to dig deep into your pockets, as it costs a whopping 2,100,000 gold. “Converted” into WoW brands, this corresponds to a price of just under €160 (as of January 3, 2024).
How long does the offer last?
Miss Xiulan's offer will only remain active for a few months. If you ask her about it, she'll say that her items will only remain on sale until "the end of August" and that remaining stocks will then be shipped to the black market auction house - and there probably at significantly higher prices.
This roughly coincides with the possible release of the pre-patch for the next WoW expansion “The War Within”. If you want these special skins and the mount, you should rake in some serious gold in the next few months.
Why does WoW do this?
There are probably many reasons for this. On the one hand, World of Warcraft has been trying to make more and more transmog items and in-game customizations accessible in a variety of ways in recent months. Some are about the trading post, others are about the return of the old Naxxramas and others are about secrets and puzzles.
It's only logical that some of the new items are also sold using the in-game currency gold - as in this case. This then serves as a “gold sink”, i.e. an opportunity for wealthy players to get rid of their gold. There have been several such dealers in the past.
However, what always leaves a bad aftertaste with such dealers is that gold can also be “bought” directly for real money, for example by selling the WoW token in the auction house. This means that all gold prices can always be assigned euro prices. Critics have long complained that this has ruined the integrity of the game and represents a mild but existing form of “Pay2Win”.
What do you think of such rich people and their offers? A good thing for exclusive rewards? Or just a cheap trick to entice people to buy WoW gold?
