As announced during the April 1st livestream — and no, it wasn’t an April Fool’s joke — Ankama is removing pebbles from a large number of crafting recipes in Dofus with the upcoming 3.1 update. Dubbed a “consolidation patch,” this update looks promising, bringing improvements to the UI, overall performance, and even the Eliotrope class. However, as often with Ankama, this first iteration is far from perfect.

The End of a Burden
While the beta for the update has just launched, players were met with an unexpected surprise. Although pebbles have indeed been significantly reduced in recipes, they’ve been replaced — by nuggets. These alliance-generated resources have been criticized for years due to the monopolies controlling them across all servers. As a result, most players are unable to generate nuggets on their own.
Previously used in 266 recipes, nuggets are now required in 536 items — sometimes in staggering quantities, up to 5,000 nuggets for level 200 gear. This shift doesn’t sit well with players who prefer to stay out of alliances or avoid the long-standing “nugget mafia.” While removing pebbles is a step in the right direction, replacing one restrictive resource with another solves little.
A Murky New Era
Beyond nuggets, another bottleneck has emerged: mysterious fabrics. These items, earned through weekly quests, are limited to batches of 10 — and only if the quest isn’t overly difficult. This creates another frustrating limitation on item crafting. Interestingly, other alternatives were discussed during the livestream and seemed far more reasonable.
Tourmalines, anomaly fragments, and dimensional weaves were suggested as potential substitutes. While still time-consuming to obtain, these materials aren’t locked behind monopolies or player-driven economies. They would allow players to be more self-sufficient, even if it still required effort. Thankfully, the increase in common resources across many recipes does help balance out the removal of pebbles.
