World of Warcraft in 2024 : What can we expect from Blizzard's MMORPG?

The year 2024 also brings many innovations for World of Warcraft . We'll tell you what new content is coming up.

Fans have mixed feelings about the coming year in World of Warcraft. Because although Blizzard has already announced a cycle of 3 expansions with the “Weltenseele Saga” that begins with “The War Within”, there is now a rather annoying period of time: the time between two expansions.

Based on previous experiences, many people are afraid of a “content drought”. As a rule, there is always a bit of idle time between two expansions while the developers concentrate on fine-tuning the next add-on.

It probably won't be completely different in Dragonflight, but at least there's already a schedule as to what content we can expect in 2024 - and that's a lot.

WoW Patch 102 Wardes of the Dream Key Art Alexstrasza Tyrande Merithra titel title 1280x720

Basically, Blizzard has promised that new content will continue to be released around “every 8 to 10 weeks”. That at least suggests a fairly tight schedule - but whether it can be adhered to remains to be seen.

Winter 2023 / 2024 – Patch 10.2.5

The next “major” update is patch 10.2.5, which is already playable on the PTR and, as things stand, will probably be released in January. This can already be concluded from the fact that the update brings with it some revisions to the Valentine's Day event “Love is in the Air”.

But patch 10.2.5 also brings a little highlight, especially for night elves, because they can - like everyone else - visit Bel'ameth, the new capital of the Kaldorei .

After the Amirdrassil moved from the Emerald Dream to the real world of Azeroth at the end of Patch 10.2, the night elves have begun to colonize the new world tree. They are not only found on the trunk, but have also populated the entire island. There are several residential buildings, inns, temple complexes, moon wells and a large harbor. There is even a dedicated portal area.

The new capital of the night elves is currently under construction.

Even though the city will probably still seem a little barren, it is important to remember that Bel'ameth is still under construction. It could take one or two updates before the night elves are finally at home again.

By the way, Blizzard is drastically expanding kite flying with this patch. From now on it will be called “dynamic flying” and can be used in all areas that support normal flying. This also means that you can use a lot of old flying mounts like dragons - although some of them won't work yet because Blizzard has to create a lot of animations here.

Spring 2024 – Season 4 and the patch 10.2.7

Dragonflight will probably start the fourth season between April and June and thus also release patch 10.2.7.

This patch will also offer a bit of story - such as the reconquest of Gilneas. The worgen seem to be reclaiming their old homeland. How exactly this happens, however, is not yet clear.

We already know that Blizzard will bring back the “Fated” system from Shadowlands. This means that all three major raids in the current expansion (Vault of Incarnations, Aberrus - Crucible of Shadows, Amirdrassil - Hope of the Dream) will have their difficulty increased and will have better loot. So all raids will be relevant for a while.

This has the advantage that you can review the entire expansion again and everyone who hasn't played from the beginning can experience the raids again in all their glory.

Genn Greymane wants his kingdom back - and the time seems to have come.

It can be assumed that the “prologue” to The War Within begins with this patch. So at least a few quests should appear to push the story in the right direction.

It's still uncertain which dungeons will be available this season - but it seems likely that the "Dragonflight" dungeons will return, as they were missing from last season.

Herbst 2024: The War Within

We can expect the next expansion towards autumn 2024, i.e. between the end of September and mid-December. Of course, this will first come with pre-patch 11.0, which probably already brings with it some new features and improvements. Minor revisions to the classes and also a few core features such as the warbands, where many things are unlocked account-wide - including reputation and fame.

Of course, there’s all the “usual” stuff of an expansion, including:

  • 10 new levels

  • “Delves” as an endgame for outdoor fans

  • Hero talents for all classes

  • 4 new areas

  • 8 new dungeons

  • 1 neuer Raid

  • Additional patches with new raids, dungeons and more

Even if there is no official release date for the next expansion yet, Blizzard has at least roughly stated “fall 2024”. However, the latest date according to the pre-order would be December 31, 2024 - and Blizzard will want to stick to that at all costs. We have revealed here which of the three versions is worth it.

Is WoW still worth it in 2024?

At first glance, the year 2024 may seem a little quieter because it has to bridge the time between two expansions. But there are enough innovations and fresh (or rehashed) content to keep a WoW subscription going for at least a few months - if only to get all the characters ready for the new expansion.

If you have concerns, you can of course wait until The War Within launches and then use the (certainly) re-emerging hype to return to the World of Warcraft along with many others.

Are you looking forward to the WoW year 2024? Or are you using the time to take a little break from Azeroth?
