WoW: Dragonflight Season 4 becomes the best dungeon endgame --- Why?

In a blog post on the official website, the Blizzard developers have announced major dungeon changes for the upcoming Season 4 of WoW: Dragonflight.

What can WoW players expect in Dragonflight Season 4?

In a nutshell: a whole host of changes to dungeons, their progression, and rewards. However, they are so comprehensive that we will break down the details for you one by one below.

First, let's take a look at what goals the developers want to achieve with the announced changes:

  • Heroic dungeons don't matter anymore far too quickly, as they are almost indistinguishable from the difficulty of the normal versions. Mythic 0 dungeons are also losing importance far too quickly.
  • In WoW's dungeon endgame, almost everything revolves around a timer ticking in the background. The only way to get an alternative game experience is to release a megadungeon again.

In other words, there are currently two difficulty levels that are not actually used. In addition, the endgame area offers too little variety for dungeon fans (in view of the existing game modes).

What does Blizzard want to improve?

The developers have announced the following changes for Season 4 of Dragonflight:

  • In the future, the Heroic difficulty will be more in line with the current level of Mythic 0 (including the corresponding rewards). It will still be possible to log in to this difficulty level via the Dungeon Finder, but your character will need to have a higher item level than before.
  • The current Mythic 0 should match the level of Mythic 10 in the future (the same goes for the rewards). There will still be no affixes and no timer here.
  • The following keystone steps adapt accordingly. So today's Mythic 5 is more like Mythic 15 in Season 4.
  • So, for today's Mythic dungeon content 0 to 10, there will no longer be a timer in Season 4.

The developers would like to illustrate the transition with the following diagram:

The new dungeon progression in Season 4 of WoW: Dragonflight.

What does this mean for Season 4's Mythic affixes?

The upcoming season's affixes await you at the following Mythic levels:

  • +2 – Empowered/Tyrannical
  • +5 – Enveloping/Incorporeal and so on
  • +10 – Inciting/Bursting and so on

In Season 4, Mythic 2 will only be the same as today's Mythic 11, Mythic 5 will be the same as today's Mythic 15, and Mythic 10 will be the same as today's Mythic 20.

What about the rewards?

According to the Blizzard developers, the basic structure of the dungeon loot will not change noticeably. Here are some examples:

Initial upgrade level Item level (Season3) End of Run Reward / Treasury (Season 3) Item Level (Season 4) End of Run Reward / Treasury (Season 4)
Explorer 3/8 421 Normal Dungeon / – 460 Normal Dungeon / –
Adventurer 1/8 428 Heroic Dungeon / – 467
Adventurer 4/8 437 Mythic 0 / – 476 Heroic Dungeon / –
Veteran 4/8 450 Mythic +7/8 /
Mythic 0
489 – / Heroic Dungeon
Hero 1/6 467 Mythic +19 and above /
Mythic + 10/11
509 Mythic +9 and above /
Mythic +2/3
You can find the full table with all levels on the official WoW website

What about the Crest and Flystone rewards?

The flying stones granted from a Season 4 Mythic Plus dungeon are intended to be similar to the similarly difficult Mythic Plus dungeon from Season 3. So Mythic 2 will have the same number of flying stones in Season 4 as Mythic 12 does now. Otherwise, the following applies:

  • The bonus flystones for increasing the Mythic Plus score of any party member will remain unchanged.
  • There are no longer any Welpling Crests for Mythic Plus dungeons.
  • You will now receive ten Dragon Crests upon successful completion of a Mythic 0 dungeon.
  • Wyrm Emblems are available in Mythic +2 to +5 dungeons in the same quantities as in the existing Mythic Plus dungeons.
  • Aspect Crests are available on any Mythic difficulty starting at +6, and in the same quantities as in the existing Mythic+ dungeons.
