The new mode in WoW divides the community, gets even bigger, brings joy and concerns

Plunderstorm is an experiment: a battle royale in World of Warcraft where everyone starts with the same prerequisites. The mode polarizes like nothing else in the MMORPG for a long time and will get a trio mode with the next patch. For those who don't like this mode, iGV has got you covered with the cheap and fast WOW Gold to help you immerse yourself in this game even faster.

What is this mode?

  • Plunderstorm is a battle royale, the big feature of the secret patch 10.2.6.
  • You jump over the Arathi Highlands, collect skills and loot, and try to win. For the loot – or actually: reputation with the new faction – there are cosmetic rewards, mounts and pets.
  • The mode is causing controversy. Some absolutely hate him and think he destroys WoW, the time was better invested in other things. Others say Plunderstorm is exactly what WoW needs right now, and they're happy that Blizzard is trying something new.

Here's what's changing in Plunderstorm:

In the recent Creator Royale streamer showdown, the developers announced that you'll soon be able to play Plunderstorm in trios. At the moment, only solo or duo matches are possible.

The number of players is expected to remain limited to 60, so you'll be fighting against 19 other teams. The update is expected to arrive "next week", presumably on April 2nd or 3rd (via wowhead).

Trios is a mode that has been requested by many fans of the mode since the release of Plunderstorm. However, there are concerns about whether this is really such a good idea.

"Hope they keep that, it's good for the game"

Plunderstorm is an absolute mess and intentionally unbalanced. That's what Blizzard said right at release. Nevertheless, there are some problems at the moment that spoil the fun of the game:

  • some spells are simply too strong, despite nerfs they dominate the matches
  • Lags cause the hitboxes of many spells to look inconsistent
  • in duos, there are a few skill combinations that can easily wipe out enemies without fighting back
  • there is a lack of opportunity to provide meaningful support and save one's partner

In addition, it has become common practice that a few players only loot and then kill themselves just to grind reputation as quickly as possible. They have no interest in the mode and only want the rewards, which was clouded the fun of the "honest" players.

The upcoming trios are now causing further discussions. On Reddit, for example, there are concerns about whether it will now be even easier to wipe out other players with coordinated groups.

That's true, some fans say, but that's okay. In a perfect setup, it should be possible to wipe out individual opponents. As soon as the whole team of enemies fights back, things look different again.

In general, the message of the trios is well received, only the idea of Plunderstorm itself is still viewed critically. The fronts here are quite hardened: Some think that Plunderstorm is a waste of development time that Blizzard should rather put into the real game.

Others think that Plunderstorm is a perfect change. Something new that has only been in the game for a short time, an experiment – even if quite a few fans would like to see Plunderstorm as a permanent mode. Or recurring with new motifs. At least Blizzard has already announced new PvE content in an apparently similar form for Patch 10.2.7.
