Tip 1: Having trouble finding quest objectives? The compass button in your quest interface will mark them on your map
This little button will help make your life much easier when doing quests. And don't forget that you can click on the name of a quest in your chat window when you receive it to jump directly to the quest and turn on its compass buttons.
Tip 2: When communicating with other players, you can automatically share your stats, level, and position on the map by using the following commands: %stats% %level%, or %pos%.
These commands will make it easier to share information about your character with others that you are teamed up with. Don't forget that while you're in Incarnam, you can click on other players and "Join" them automatically. But this only works if you are both in the Incarnam area!
Other useful chat commands: /time, /ping, and /whois playername
Tip 3: Right-click on things. Monsters, the interface, stacks of players standing at a zaap. They all have secondary options that will inform you or give you customization options.
Tip 4: Stuck inside a building and not sure how to get out?
There are two types of indoor exits in DOFUS - the yellow and green sunburst, and interactive elements like doors or stairs. Here are some examples that can be found in Incarnam. The yellow and green starburst is always an exit or entry point to another map. They're in use throughout the game, so keep your eyes open for them!
Some exits or entrances are interactive background elements, like the stairs in the screenshot on the right. When you mouse over them, they will light up and you'll see your pointer change to the gear icon.
You can also use the "y" shortcut to highlight all interactive elements in the room you're currently in.
Improving your character and fighting skills
Tip 1: When building your first character, concentrate on one main element and perhaps one secondary element. Don't try to be a jack-of-all-trades.
Veteran RPG players may find it almost impossible to resist the idea of a character who is equally strong in all elements. However, in DOFUS, you'll find your damage and effectiveness as a character much stronger if you take a look at your spells, find the ones that you like best, and then focus on only increasing the element that matches those spells. Most classes have three main elemental "paths" that each focus on a different type of gameplay. For example, one class may have air spells that are primarily ranged, while their earth spells are focused on close combat attacks. Find the one that fits your style best, focus on it, and then carefully choose spells from the other paths that support your style and can be improved through multi-elemental gear.
Find equipment that will increase your health and wisdom rather than putting points into them; most classes will do much better putting these points into their main or secondary element. The major exception are Sacriers who receive two hit points for the price of one characteristic point... what a deal!
As you get more experienced, you might want to try building a multi-elemental or omni-elemental character, just be aware that these types of builds usually work best with scrolling and special equipment, which means they can be more expensive and slower to level.
Tip 2: Check monsters' resistances by mousing over them while in battle.
Some monsters have resistances or weaknesses to certain elements. You'll have a much easier time in battle if you watch for these resistances and weaknesses and try to match your type of damage to each monster's least protected element!Tip 3: Watch fight text for information about elements that monsters attack with.
The client automatically outputs a list of all actions that take place during combat to the game chat. You can use this log to see what element monsters are using to attack you.In the screenshot you can see that the Red Piwi has attacked Ambrosyne for 13 points of fire elemental damage, then Ambrosyne retaliates with 46 points of earth elemental damage.
Understanding monsters' elemental damage is particularly useful if you play as a Feca and need to protect yourself or your team effectively, but it can also be helpful if you're having trouble with a monster and want to try gear with damage resistance to increase your chance of survival.
